Looking for Mapogos? Lions have always been projected as the wildest, most brutal, and most notorious animal. Here, we discuss a group of six lion brothers who ruled the Sabi sands of South Africa for years. This group was named as Mapogos lion coalition.

These lions got famous because of their immense strength and power. According to some reports, these brothers have killed over 100 lions, including female lions and cubs. Their wildness and strength controlled approximately 70,000 hectares of Kruger National Park.

History of Mapogo Lions:

Mapogo’s name was derived from a South African security company that chose brutal methods with the offenders. These lions belonged to Sparta pride. Five of them were real brothers, and one of them was an outsider but lived with them like their own brother.

Following are the names of Mapogo lions:

  1. Makhulu:

Makhulu was an outsider and the oldest among all the Sabi Sand lions. He was the biggest in this band; that’s why his name was Makhulu which means “big” or “impressive.”

  1. Pretty Boy:

As his name says, he was the prettiest in the group. He was very tactical and had very few fights; that’s why he had fewer scars.

  1. Mr T (Satan):

Mr T was the most brutal and intense among the Sabi Sand lions. His name was derived from a character with the same Mohawk mane hairstyle.

  1. Skew Spine:

The skew spine was named because he had a scar on his side hip and spine.

  1. Dreadlocks/Rasta:

He had caught something in his mane that formed a dreadlock shape; that’s why he was named like this.

  1. Kinky Tail:

This lion had a lovely tightly curled tail; that’s why he named as a kinky tail.

In 2004 they left their pride and started making their territory. The very first time, this group killed a buffalo. Then they killed a giraffe that showed that these brothers were powerful. After 2006 this band ruled the whole Sabi sands and formed a vast territory.

The End of Mapogo Lions:

In 2010, a new band, Majingilanes, entered the Sabi sands, fought with these lions, and killed Kinky Tail. Then in 2012, Skew Spine and dreadlock also got disappeared. In the same year, a new Southern pride fought with these lions, and as a result, Mr T got killed.

Makhulu and Pretty Boy were seen together in October 2012. However, in 2013 the oldest Mapogo Makhulu was last seen in the Mala Mala.

The Mapogos band of six brothers ruled the Sabi sands for six years with extreme brutality and cruelness. But pride can’t be left forever, and in 2012 this band broke.
